Bone - Anchored Hearing Aids May Benifit Kids

Children with hearing loss could benifit from this bone-anchored hearing aid. This is according to a new study. This is a small device attached to the bone behind the ear. This device was introduced more than 30 years ago and has become an established treatment option for adults and children. The study looked at 31 children who were around 4 years old when they underwent BAHA fitting. They had used this device for one to four years. SIxteen of the children had heaing loss in both ears and fifteen of the children had hearing loss in one ear. The 13 kids that had hearing loss in both ears were using the BAHA for more than eight hours. Twelve of the kids said it was worth the effort. The same thing happened with the kids who only have hearing loss in one ear. People who have a hearing loss in both or one ear and got this device earlier experinced a greater benifit and higher quality or life after being continued.

This arlticle really caught my attention because I am hearing impaired. It feels fantastic to know that they are working on new technology for people that have hearing loss. The technolgy is amazing and I am very thankful for my hearing aids and for the continued interest in developing better equitment for hearing impaired people.
